Question:

|
I accidentally damaged the cuticle of my thumb by scratching, and then I ended up destroying and practically removing the lower part of my nail with a file. Will the thumbnail grow back? Also, it looks awful and can anything be done to cover the destroyed part while it heals.

Dear EVT, Thankyou for your inquiry. A damaged cuticle generally heals, a nail is only permanently damaged when the nail plate or part of the nail at the cuticle where the half moon area is that grows the nail is damaged.By your description it is difficult to judge whether your nail will be permanently damaged. There is not a lot you can do other than wait and see. If the nail is jagged and can get caught on things and sustain further damage then cover it with a simple bandaid otherwise not necessary to cover for medical reasons, hope this helps.
