 Question:

					| I developed pregnancy induced high blood pressure. My baby was delivered at 25 weeks gestation. She is now 8 months old and I still have the high blood pressure. Is it normal to develop high blood pressure for life after giving birth prematurely as a result of developing high blood pressure during pregnancy?

					| Thank you for your question. Problems with high blood pressure or (hypertension) are the most common medical complications of pregnancy and occur in between 5 and 10 percent of pregnancies. The commonest causes are acute gestational hypertension and preeclampsia which resolve within a short time after delivery. The other common cause is primary hypertension which does not resolve after delivery. In your case, I suspect that you have this condition which is unrelated to pregnancy. You should be regularly followed by a doctor for this problem. Hope this helps.
