Question:

I developed pregnancy induced high blood pressure. My baby was delivered at 25 weeks gestation. She is now 8 months old and I still have the high blood pressure. Is it normal to develop high blood pressure for life after giving birth prematurely as a result of developing high blood pressure during pregnancy?

Thank you for your question. Problems with high blood pressure or (hypertension) are the most common medical complications of pregnancy and occur in between 5 and 10 percent of pregnancies. The commonest causes are acute gestational hypertension and preeclampsia which resolve within a short time after delivery. The other common cause is primary hypertension which does not resolve after delivery. In your case, I suspect that you have this condition which is unrelated to pregnancy. You should be regularly followed by a doctor for this problem. Hope this helps.
