Last November I contracted yeast infection from my ex-girlfriend. My doctor prescribed Nystatin Cream USP (100.000 USP units per gram)After using the cream for a while the yeast infection has returned. Is there a more effective treatment for treating yeast infection in men? Can I try the over the counter treatments for women? Will that work for me?

Thank you for your inquiry. The usual reason that such problems recur (assuming the diagnosis remains the same, which is likely but not proven - you are best advised to have the diagnosis confirmed by seeing your doctor) is not because the treatment prescribed was ineffective but because either treatment was not continued for long enough; this is not the case here we assume as you had been free of the infection for nearly a year; or because the infection is 'swapped' back and forth between partners. Treating only one partner or treating partners at different times means it is very likely that reinfection will occur. Hope this helps
