Question:

I've had a verruca for around 4 years now, which my doctor refuses to treat, claiming old treatments, such as digging or freezing them, only makes them worse. Such treatments worked well for me in the past. Where do you stand on this argument and how can I get rid of it?

Thank you for your inquiry. We are of the 'school' of thought that - while acknowledging the indisptuable facts that a) warts often regress spontaneously and therefore 'waiting to see' is a reasonable approach to start with and b) interfering with warts causes a viraemia (virus to circulate in the blood) which can be implicated in more warts elsewhere - still thinks most patients want to gte rid of veruccas. The 'best' but not only way is diathermy or cryotherapy (heat or cold) to the wart - under (local) anesthesia. More painstakingly, warts can be treated by regular applications of podophyllin or podophyllotoxin (liquids that are applied to the surface of the wart), and more expensively by laser. These comments are made for the purpose of discussion and should NOT be used as recommendations for or against therapies or other treatments. An individual patient is always advised to consult their own physician. Hope this helps
