I've been taking the sedative Valium for over a month now, and predictably I've had to increase dosage to maintain effectiveness. Can you reccomend something more sophisticated that is generally available in Moscow-for the treatment of chronic insomnia. Either sedative or tranquiliser.

Dear Timot,
Thank you for your question. Valium is not generally recommended for long-term use, and particularly here
in Russia is quite strictly controlled. It would be best to consider why you have insomnia and to learn some
non-medical techniques to deal with it. If there is associated stress, relaxation training can help. A family doctor would be able to advise. For treatment I suggest Persen, a herbal remedy or Donormil which is a sedative antihistamine. Both are available over the counter; or make an appointment to discuss the problem. Regards,
