Hell,
Am currently looking for an apartment. Strangely enough the landlord doesn't want me to register my visa (one-year multiple entry business) on the apartment. Do you know why? And are there ways out?

Dear Arjan,
It happens sometimes that landlords don't want to register foreigners, because they don't know for sure what kind of responsibilties it causes. In most of cases they don't want to bother going to notary office and afraid of paying income taxes on rent money. You could try to convince your landlord that the notary letter required for registration will not cause him any problems with tax inspectors (Nalogovaya Politzia). If you have got your visa from ATH, we can consult you how to persuade your land lord. If you really want to live at this apartment, you should register your visa in some other place (maybe some friends of yours are owning apartments and could give you that notarized letter). If nothing hepls, you'd better find another apartment. Good luck! |
